The [ak] line is still Burton’s premiere softgoods collection. It has formed the cornerstone of the brand’s technical clothing range for over a decade now. For the winter of 2015 / 2016 it remains a big part of the Burton range. [ak] is all about technical clothing, accessories and packs aimed at backcountry snowboarding and splitboarding. Check out the highlights.[avantlink_ad merchant=”Backcountry.com” title=”Free 2-Day Shipping (728×90)”][/avantlink_ad]
[ak] 3L Hover JacketThe 3L Hover Jacket is the most focused, durable and functional Gore-Tex shell in the [ak] range. The Hover is an all round hardcore snowboarding shell, equally as suitable for ripping pow off the lifts as it is for big mountain splitboard missions.
[ak] 3L Hover Pant
Prefer a pant as opposed to a bib? The 3L Hover Pant is clean, light and durable. Just like the 3L Hover Jacket, the Hover Pant is dialed for backcountry missions and lift served freeride. This is the best pant in the Burton line for the seasoned splitboarder too.
[ak] 3L Freebird JacketBurton’s splitboarding specific shell, the Freebird is built using lightweight Gore-Tex Pro with stretch Gore-Tex Pro panels for lightweight packability combined with great freedom of movement.
[ak] 3L Freebird BibBuilt for super deep days and hardcore backcountry use, the Freebird Bib is the kind of mountain utility wear that [ak] stands for. Gore-Tex Pro fabric is bomber and should stand up to all sorts of multi season abuse, whether on sled or splitboard.
[ak] 2L Boom Jacket
Not as packable or durable as the Hover or Freeride Jackets, the 2L Boom Jacket is still a great option for backcountry snowboarding, especially for riders who can’t afford to drop big money on a shell. It’s looking really sweet this year I think too.
[ak] 2L LZ Down JacketYou don’t see very many Gore-Tex shelled down jackets. Super warm, super light and super weatherproof, this is a great option for anyone who lives and rides in cold places.
[ak] 2L Helitack JacketSimilar to the 2L LZ Down Jacket above in that it’s waterproof and insulated, the Helitak however uses Primaloft synthetic insulation instead of down. Primaloft is soft, warm and breathable and makes the perfect insulation in a riding jacket. The Helitak is one for cold days on the slopes and in the backcountry. It’s also perfect for winter living.
[ak] Hybrid InsulatorThe [ak] Hybrid Insulator places two different types of insulation in different areas of the garment. Primaloft insulation over the upper torso and shoulders provides compressible warmth with the added bonus of weather protection where you need it and smooth layering comfort. On the arms and lower torso is more less bulky Polartec grid fleece that is streamlined for efficient layering and breathable enough to vent excess heat. The [ak] Hybrid Insulator the most versatile midlayer in the [ak] line.
[ak] Grid HoodieOne of the best looking pieces of insulation out there this winter, the [ak] Grid Hoodie should excel over all of the mountain, in all conditions. Burton have taken the tech fleece hoody that pretty much every brand has in their range and distilled it down to a simple, clean design that looks good and should perform great, especially for splitboarding.
[ak] Guide GloveThe [ak] Guide Glove features Gore’s new grip technology which keeps the lining and Gore-Tex insert from moving around inside the glove thus increasing dexterity. This glove is packed with Primaloft and lined with fleece for warmth and has a high quality Pittards Oiltac leather palm.
[ak] 3L Hover MittMultiple liners and a taped 3 layer Gore-Tex shell make the Hover Mitt a do-it-all option for all winter long shredding. The first liner option is down insulated for superior warmth, the second has touchscreen technology. The taped outer shell is the best way to keep hands warm and dry in cold, wet conditions.
[ak] Leather Tech GloveFleece lined leather gloves are always a good option for backcountry use, which is why so many guides and professionals use them.
[ak] packs come in 17L, 23L and 31L capacities and provide organised avy gear storage along with dedicated horizontal and vertical snowboard carry. The ABS Vario cover is compatible with the ABS airbag system.
