For winter 2016 / 217, Norrona release a new line in their range called Tamok. Products in the Tamok line are designed to be technical in their features and construction, yet have a military / urban vibe to their style. Appropriately named after the Tamok Valley in Norway’s Arctic – a place that mixes huge snowfalls with big alpine alines and some of the best tree riding anywhere. It’s in keeping with Norrona’s naming schema and joins neighbouring zones Lyngen, Lofoten and Narvik in the range.
Tamok Gore-Tex Jacket
Aimed at riders who want a technical shell but don’t want to look like an alpine climber, the Tamok Gore-Tex Jacket is the top of the line piece in the range. The level of performance and detail is right on a par with Norrona’s other high-end shells like the Lofoten, but the military styling is in keeping with a more snowsports orientated look.
Norrona have used Gore-Tex C-Knit fabric to construct the Tamok Jacket. C-Knit is a soft, quiet fabric with high levels of breathability, along with the usual levels of durability you’d expect from a Gore-Tex fabric. It’s perfect for use in a backcountry shell where mobility and breathability are just as important as weather protection. Loads of pockets provide storage, big vents provide ample air flow and the hood is helmet compatible. The Tamok Jacket’s longer length and overall fit looks great too.
Tamok Gore-Tex Jacket LTD
The Tamok Gore-Tex jacket also comes in a limited edition Black Camo colourway with the same fit and features as the standard model. I suspect these might disappear pretty fast!
ALSO IN THE TAMOK RANGE:
Warm/Wool2 Zip Hood
The Warm/Wool2 Zip Hood is a ‘toned down’ technical midlayer for resort, backcountry and casual use. The wool / polyester mix fabric provides good technical performance and the feature set is primed for the mountains.
Lightweight Down 750 Jacket
Stuffed with 750 fill power down, the Lightweight 750 Down Jacket is designed to be used as a midlayer during cold conditions or as a stand alone outer layer in its own right.
A more affordable option to the Tamok Gore-Tex Jacket, the Tamok Dri2 features a cotton / polyester mix face fabric with a waterproof / breathable membrane behind. It has the same military inspired style lines as the rest of the Tamok range and, at 1200g, is more of a resort / freeride shell than a backcountry / touring piece.
